In the later chapters of my life, well into the folds of my 30s, I unexpectedly found myself entangled in the intricate web of sports. This wasn’t the typical tale of a seasoned athlete; it was more of a slow bloom, a late-blooming romance with physical activity that began with a seemingly innocent challenge from a friend. The challenge, a friendly wager – “Can you run a half marathon in six months?” My reply, a nonchalant “Sure, that’s an easy game,” even though my running résumé was about as extensive as a short story.
Remarkably, I treated this seemingly casual bet with utmost seriousness. Over the next six months, I transformed from someone with minimal running background into the protagonist of my own running saga, culminating in the completion of my inaugural half marathon. Little did I know, that accomplishment would mark the genesis of a new chapter – a chapter characterized by a passion that some might label as an addiction, a far healthier substitute for my previous dalliance with smoking.
MARATHON AND INJURY
Active participation in mass running events became a regular feature in the narrative of my life. After conquering ten half marathons, I found myself mentally primed for a grander challenge – a full marathon spanning 42 kilometers and 195 meters. The gauntlet was thrown, the challenge was accepted, and as the finish line approached after 3 hours and 42 minutes, the experience etched itself indelibly in my memory, a mental trophy that still gleams even years later.
